Another assault rifle mass killing.

The teen shooter only killed five this time. The victims were a couple and their three children. The murder weapon was apparently an assault rifle. This occurred in New Mexico. The shooter is in custody.

Bet you were not even aware that this happened.

Is the Inauguration snuffing (no pun intended) this out?

I'm actually somewhat shocked that there is not more hullabaloo.

Somewhat ironic that it happens during the Inauguration period.

But then, again, the Copy-Cat syndrome suggests the inevitability--more frequently for a while--of similar tragedies.

got it Brett. Yes, large news events tend to crowd multiple murders off the page, especially if there is nothing sexy about the murders.

Really, it is getting to the point that a death toll of 5 does not get us to sit up and take notice anymore. Any shooter who bags less than ten with an assault rifle is viewed as a slacker, almost.

Which, sadly, means that the Copy-Cats will realize this and always try to go for "multiple" game--so as to the requisite attention.

I went to the internet to read about this shooting. The accused is the son of the man murdered. It does not say if the woman was his mother or step-mother or if she was even related. And the others were children at the home. This to me is a lot different than some looney killing of bunch of people he doesn't even know. Something must have happened within the family.

Its no different. Murder is murder. And for one to have pulled the trigger, they have had to had some issues. A sane person doesn't just up and fire. And just because the number of deaths in that incident isn't high, The incident is still important, as the lives of the people who were killed.

To look at a child & have the ability to pull the trigger can involve nothing but a sociopathic mind. No amount of gun laws will ever eliminate this, short of confiscating everyones guns, which isn't going to happen. These shocking events will continue ad finitum as it's to late to close the barn door when the horse is already out of the barn.....

3 million assault rifles are in private hands. 2nd amendment says you can't take them back, we can only say no more.

I agree R. F. Many of the proposed changes will probably result is fewer deaths, but we won't see the results, because preventing a crime doesn't show up in the stats.

Sociopathic, or seriously whacked out on something. Yes evil of this kind will still be around, sadly enough, but doing nothing to at least try to lessen the possibilities to me would be sadder yet.

Yes! Ending mass killing is beyond our power because the door has been opened so wide. universal background checks would make it far more challenging for criminals and the insane to obtain weapons. Stealng weapons is much harder than just buying them on the private market. criminals are capable of stealing, but the mentally ill are often not, unless the weapon is in their own home.

I was actually aware of this; I saw it on the 'Breaking News' Twitter feed on HuffPost this morning. I haven't watched the news today (other than CBS Sunday Morning) so I don't know if there was any discussion other than online.

First I've heard of this~not sure when it happened, but I was watching cable news all morning, so later, maybe? Plus, with tomorrow's events, MSM might be toning it down...
